Please join us for a special engagement on Thursday, November 5 at 7:30pm celebrating San Francisco poetics.

Small Press Traffic, Foglifter, and the University of San Francisco Master of Fine Arts in Writing program present an evening with Dodie Bellamy, Randall Mann, and Baruch Porras-Hernandez.

Graduate students from D.A. Powell’s course “San Francisco Poetics” will tour the SPT Archives and deliver introductions for the readers. 

This event is free and open to the public.

Doors at 7:00pm, reading begins at 7:30pm.

Dodie Bellamy

Dodie Bellamy is novelist, poet, and essayist, who, in her own words, champions “the vulnerable, the fractured, the disenfranchised, the fucked-up.” Her books include two collections published by Semiotext(e): Bee Reaved (2021) and When the Sick Rule the World (2015). With Kevin Killian she co-edited Writers Who Love Too Much: New Narrative 1977-1997 (Nightboat, 2017). She was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship in nonfiction.

Randall Mann

Randall Mann is the author of six poetry collections, most recently Deal: New and Selected Poems (Copper Canyon Press, 2023). A new collection, Memory Puzzle, is forthcoming from Copper Canyon in fall 2027. He teaches in the Bennington Writing Seminars and lives in San Francisco.

Baruch Porras-Hernandez

Baruch Porras-Hernandez is a writer, performer, organizer, professional MC/Host, curator, stand up comedian, and the author of the chapbooks “I Miss You, Delicate” and “Lovers of the Deep Fried Circle” both with Sibling Rivalry Press. He had the honor of touring with the legendary Sister Spit Queer poetry tour in 2019, is a is a two-time winner of Literary Death Match, a regular host of literary shows for KQED, and was named a Writer to Watch in 2016 by 7×7 Magazine. His poetry can be found with Write Bloody Publishing, The Tusk, Foglifter, Assaracus and many more. He has been an artist in residence at The Ground Floor at Berkeley Rep, a Lambda Literary Fellow in Poetry, and Playwriting. He’s been featured in shows with The Rumpus, Writers with Drinks, has performed several times with Radar Productions, LitQuake, and Quiet Lightning. His solo show “Love in the Time of Piñatas” got a clapping man from the SF Chronicle and was performed to sold-out houses at Epic Party Theatre in December of 2019. He is the head organizer of ¿Donde Esta Mi Gente? a Latinx literary performance series, he is an immigrant originally from Mexico, and is currently the lead artist in a multidisciplinary project that will create new Queer Latino Superheroes with MACLA, which stands for Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana in San Jose. He lives in San Francisco.

D. A. Powell

D. A. Powell is the author of five collections, including Useless Landscape, or A Guide for Boys, which received the National Book Critics Circle Award in poetry. His honors include two Northern California Book Awards, the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Prize, the Shelley Memorial Prize from the Poetry Society of America, and the John Updike Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, as well as fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation.

Critic Stephanie Burt, writing in the New York Times, said of D. A. Powell “No accessible poet of his generation is half as original, and no poet as original is this accessible.”  

A former Briggs-Copeland Lecturer in Poetry at Harvard University, Powell has taught at Stanford, Columbia, University of Texas at Austin, University of Iowa’s Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and Davidson College. He is a Professor at University of San Francisco and lives in San Francisco.

Powell’s most recent book is Repast: Tea, Lunch & Cocktails, a reissue of his first three collections with an introduction by novelist David Leavitt. Three chapbooks have appeared in the last 6 years: Atlas T, published by Rescue Press in Spring of 2020, Low Hanging Fruit, printed by Foundlings Press in 2022, and Tricks, published by Cutbank Books in 2026.
