An Evening with Renee Gladman

We are thrilled to present an evening with Renee Gladman, who's returning to the Bay Area to celebrate the reissue of her groundbreaking book To After That (TOAF). Originally published in 2008 by Lyn Hejinian and Travis Ortiz’s publication project Atelos, the book was written during the years Gladman lived in San Francisco.

An effort to give space and life to an abandoned project, TOAF is a recuperative song and a beautiful meditation on process, distance and duration — a  reminder that time is always a subject of writing.

NOTES ON ACCESsIBILITY

A wheelchair lift can be accessed through the center doors of the Redstone Building (2940 16th Street). Contact SPT in advance if you will need the doors to the lift open. The Lab supports Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) through its mixing board. Each bathroom has one stall with a 35 inch clearance at the door.

Renee Gladman

Renee Gladman is a writer and artist working at the intersections of writing, drawing and architecture. She is the author of numerous works, including a cycle of novels about the city-state Ravicka and its inhabitants, the Ravickians, as well as three collections of drawings. My Lesbian Novel, a work of fiction and autobiography, is forthcoming in September 2024. Recent essays and visual work have appeared in The Architectural Review, POETRY, The Paris Review, The Yale Review, and e-flux, in addition to several artist monographs and exhibition catalogs. Gladman has been awarded fellowships and artist residencies from the Menil Drawing Institute, Harvard Radcliffe Institute, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, among others, and received a Windham-Campbell prize in fiction in 2021. She makes her home in New England with poet-ceremonialist Danielle Vogel.

Committed to this mission since 1974, we highlight diverse, multidisciplinary, and intergenerational practitioners in our public programs, and prioritize equity, accessibility, and collaboration in our working model. SPT also stewards an archive of small press material produced and circulated in the Bay Area over the last half century.
