Join us January 27th for an evening of dancing, poetry, and prizes to kick off our 50th anniversary and celebrate the print collection of our archives, opening to the public later this year.
The celebration will take place at Et al.'s Mission location in San Francisco with tunes by a DJ Ori Diwata, delicious food from Reem’s, a special poetry game and even karaoke if the vibe is right.
We’ll have 50th anniversary merch with the work of Bay Area artists Cliff Hengst, Aki Neumann, Floss Editions, and Paul Ebenkamp, as well as a beautiful poster of our bygone 24th Street bookstore drawn in 1980 by Ed Aulerich-Sugai, the famed subject of Robert Glück’s About Ed.
Curated by Noah Ross, Jocelyn Saidenberg, and Robin Tremblay-McGaw, the event features a visual timeline of book covers from our collection, which will be displayed on the gallery walls. And in a nod to our long, rich history, nine poets who served various roles in Small Press Traffic’s development as former directors, organizers, readers, and participants — Norma Cole, Tonya Foster, Samantha Giles, Robert Glück, Owen Hill, Dana Teen Lomax, Camille Roy, Juliana Spahr, and Elizabeth Treadwell — will read a poem of their choice by a poet they love (guess which poem each person selected in our special game!)
Party with us after the reading as we dance (or sing?) our way into the next 50 years of Small Press Traffic.
(doors at 7, reading at 8, dancing at 9)
…this is just the beginning of a full year of anniversary programs. See a rundown here!
